Is publishing more content actually helping your site grow?

I have been seeing a lot of sites publishing article after article, but the overall traffic barely moves. At some point, adding more pages seems less useful than making the existing site stronger.
More content doesn’t automatically mean more traffic.

Once a site has covered the main topics, improving existing pages, internal links, and search intent can be more useful than just publishing another batch of articles.

sites have been able to accelerate growth by revisiting their existing content rather than creating new posts. it is better for one to have a single quality post that correctly answers the query than having several posts that r hasty. i would first optimize those pages which are currently being indexed, before considerinng posting new ones.

Publishing more content helps only when the content is useful, relevant and aligned with search intent.

In other words, mass producing low quality content isnt really a beginner mistake anymore as pruning dead pages and upgrading existing pages with quality internal linking works much more effectively.

You should keep adding content on website and also updating old posts. This will give signal to google that you are actively working on the website and will thus reward you.

I would focus on what is already working improving old pages can sometimes bring better result than adding lots of new content.

One of the best moves I made on a mid-size affiliate site last year was actually to stop publishing for a month. Traffic had flatlined despite us adding around 10 posts a week, so we pruned 40 thin posts, merged a few that were competing for the same keywords, and rewrote the intros and internal links on the top 20 pages. Traffic was up about 35% within two months while the publish queue sat empty. Echoing what a few people said above: on smaller sites crawl budget and topical overlap hurt you more than a thin content calendar does. New content still works, but only when it is filling a genuine gap rather than padding a word count.

ads studio saying he stopped posting to work on existing ones made me rethink my plan. I always assumed more posts meant more traffic. Maybe I should fix up what's already there first.

Nope, just focus on publishing multiple article in one topic, and them move to next one. Create authority.

Never got why some sites publish every single day, it doesn't add any authority. I focus on quality content first.

The quality of article is also important here. If you are posting articles just for the sake of it, it is not going to move the rankings up for the website.

Exactly, quality and authority matter more than publishing volume.

I have some big websites with lot of content. They are ranking mainly because there is certain authority associated with these websites because they are quite old and established. New websited will not be able to easily replace their rankings even if they upload lot of content .

Publishing more pages only works if you're filling actual content gaps within a cluster. Beyond a certain point, auditing and updating existing posts or pruning zero-traffic pages yields far better traffic growth than adding new thin content.
Yes, I completely agree. After you have established sufficient coverage, it's better to refresh the existing pages that already get some traffic rather than to produce new URLs. I generally start with looking into the stats from Google Search Console.

When publishing more posts stops changing the traffic much, that’s usually when I start looking for other ways to grow the site.
Yes, it is normally the time when you have to start thinking about stoppinng your posts and condcting an audit of the ones you already have. The internal linking, refreshing, and re-distribution will be more effective than adding new URLs.
