What made you realize your SEO strategy was wrong?

traffic drop rankings for some important pages stayed the same. search console showed impressions were falling and the queries bringing traffic changed. that made look at search intent and content quality instead of just chasing more backlinks

Was there a specific ranking drop, traffic pattern, or Search Console data that made you change your approach? Curious what actually made people rethink their SEO strategy.
Frankly it does not happens over night to me. What i realized was that pages started receiving impressions but not clicks on key words that were giving me decent rankings earlier that became the something’s not right realisation for me.

it happened when i realized i was receiving impressions but not clicks at all. initially i thought i had to simply create more content.but after checking search console i disscovered many pages that were ranking for keyword searches that did not make any sense.once i realized how important it is to consider intent, content quality nd internal linking rather than keyword searches alone everything fell into place.

for me, it was when rankings looked stable but search console showed impressions and clicks steadily dropping that made me realize i was focusing too much on rankings and not enough on search intent content quality and whether the pages were actually satisfying users
Yes, rankings can remain stagnant even though the quality of traffic is deteriorating, particularly in cases when there are changes to SERPs and/or intent. I would look at all three metrics together rather than use ranking as the KPI,

A sudden ranking drop and unusual traffic changes in Search Console made me rethink my SEO strategy. It showed me that focusing too much on one tactic isn’t sustainable—diversifying content and improving overall site quality works better long term.
Yeah, that’s a very good lesson. Using one method can get you far, but having a good website with good content and good traffic sources will be a lot easier to maintain.

I noticed something was wrong when i was getting more work but the site was not improving.

Traffic pattern changed. Over time I noticed I was no longer pulling traffic like I used to. I had to reaudit, research and take restrategize
It is definitely the way to go about it. In case there are changes in traffic patterns, it would be better to examine GSC statistics, competitors, and search intent before proceeding to construct additional backlinks.

I noticed some pages were ranking for keywords that were bringing the wrong type of visitors.

In my case it was when every thing appeared to be okay on impressions but clicks and rankings were constantly going down. this is when i stopped wondering about updates and begins looking at the pages themselves.
Yeah, that's usually where the pont is to stop finding faults with updates and start auditng the pages themelves.Check the intent, CTR, freshness, and whether your competition is just providing a better answer than you.

For me it was flat impressions despite consistent publishing. That made me realize I was focusing too much on keywords instead of search intent and overall site authority.
I see what you mean. If the conteent does not align completely with the intent, then chasiing keywords will get you nowhere. Fix that first and then post content.

For me it was seeing more impressions but not really getting more clicks. I kept thinking maybe it just needed more time or whatever but after a while I was like okay, something is probably not working here

For me it’s usually a steady drop in impressions and rankings rather than one sudden change Comparing Search Console data before and after an update often shows what needs to be reworked
