I'll offer a slight counterpoint to what jasonalava1024 said - AI on its own isn't a profitable strategy, but it can absolutely be the engine inside one. I did freelance copywriting for a couple of years, and once AI writing tools got decent I stopped billing per word and started billing per outcome: content calendars, email sequences, whole blogs managed end to end. Revenue per client went up because I could handle the volume without burning out.
The people I actually know clearing 2k a month with this aren't selling "AI content" though, they're selling boring outcomes: automated lead follow-up for small businesses, chatbots that answer FAQs and book appointments, or turning one client's video into a month of posts. The AI is maybe 20% of the pitch - the other 80% is that it saves the client time or brings in leads.
Start with one service for one type of client, get two or three paying on a small monthly retainer, and grow from there. One-off gigs will keep you on a treadmill forever.
