The AI contribution pilot allows you to earn money when your content contributes significantly to the creation of AI-generated responses shown to users in participating products.

Al contribution focuses on the phase of generation where web content can significantly influence what response is generated. Web content may also confirm facts or be linked to within Google's Al after a response is generated, but those instances don't qualify for Al contribution.

This seems to be re-apply for adsense new style by the back door. Anyway, you'd need to be doing some cutting edge thinking, researching, and or production on your sites, to be picked up regularly I think.

Also what happens once the next update happens, and it no longer needs to come back to your site, cause its "learned"?

I think you can find the details in your search console somewhere.

I don't think there's such information in my GSC

how does a publisher keep that value long-term when AI can potentially absorb and summarize their work?
Just curious what others think about this.

Feels like a test to keep good publishers feeding fresh data into AI. The bigger question is whether payments stay worth it once google can answer more queries without sending any clicks back.

Even with that, I don't think they'll be willing to pay enough. Now, it's more like a 'gift' than a payment for your content.

I dont think we should compare this with adsence. Maybe they are doing it to get more data then absorb all the information and serve the searchers their so cool AI Overview which give a big loss to the website owners working hard.

Publish more cutting-edge research articles, get paid pennies. More like a small gift for all the new data they can get from webmasters.

Exactly!

And this is a way to 'bribe' the industry, others who rely on those research to build theirs and expand on the subject would not get anything.

Something I do know is, this would not be sustainable in the future.

The only reason the internet grew like this is because visitors considered it to be 'free', website owners relied on traffic from search and revenue from display ads. Now fewer traffic from search would mean new sites won't be made, hence less information available. At that point, internet users would completely rely on hallucinations from AI.

the interesting part to me is that theyre not simply paying for citations.

from what i've read the content has to actually contribute to generating the answer, while just getting linked/used to confirm something afterwards doesnt count.

so if this ever expands, i'd imagine original data, testing, research or information google cant easily get from 100 other pages becomes much more valuable than rewriting the same topic better.

also seems to be a limited pilot atm, so i wouldnt expect everyone to see anything in search console yet.

Yeah, the original research angle is what makes this interesting.

this is good news honestly
they should of done it earlier when they were already heavily stealing our data for overviews
