Gmail Recovery Loop – Phone 2FA Works But Then Demands Code Sent to the Email Itself (Forgot Password)

Hey BHW,
The problem is that I have forgotten my password, even though I have a two-step verification code linked to my recovery phone. When I entered the verification code, Gmail subsequently sent another verification code to the same Gmail address. However, I no longer have access to this Gmail account because I forgot the password, which makes it impossible for me to recover it.

The problem:

  • Forgot the password on an old Gmail account.
  • Recovery phone number is correctly linked with 2FA.
  • I go through the recovery process, enter the verification code sent to my phone — that part works.
  • Immediately after, Google sends another verification code to the Gmail address itself.
  • Since I don't have password access, I can't log in to see that code. Classic catch-22.
Tried the usual stuff:
  • "Try another way" options.
  • Different browsers/devices.
  • Waiting a few days.
  • Recovery form with whatever old details I remember.
Has anyone ever managed to successfully navigate and break free from this particular predicament?
Would appreciate real experiences (not just "contact Google support" lol). This is my own account—nothing shady, just an old one I need back. It's important for me. Any input welcome — methods, success stories, or even "this is fucked, move on" reasons.
