Does topical authority matter more than domain authority in the AI search era?

I’d put topical authority ahead of DA DR, especially for AI search. A site with strong coverage, relevant mentions and real expertise in a niche can be more valuable than a high DR domain that has little connection to the topic.

Genuine question, wheres any of this documented? Ive been through Googles AI features page and all it actually says is a page has to be indexed and eligible to show in search with a snippet, and that theres no additional technical requirements. Nothing about topical anything. Everyone else has published less than that.

topical authority would be more important to be useful in search of ai. the sites domain authority may help it become noticeable, however without good coverage of the topic, there will not be anything for ai to go on. on the other hand i would not negllect the domain authority entirely as well.

It is more significant to be concerned about whether the imo is topically relevant rather than about having a gud DA/DR score. topical relevance alone can make all the difference, provided the website has enough topical content.

I’d prioritize topical relevance over domain authority for AI visibility. A strong domain helps, but AI systems also need clear evidence that your site is genuinely authoritative on the specific topic.
So I’d build topical depth first, then strengthen it with quality backlinks and credible mentions.

Yes, Ofcourse for AI search you should focus more on topical relevance, depth of coverage quality of the referring sites, and whether the brand is consistently mentioned across relevant sources. Authority still matters, but I wouldn't chase DA alone. relevant topic + strong authority + genuine brand/entity signals,
