AI is Destroying Critical Thinking of People

Maybe yes maybe no, If a person is not inclined to think they won't whether there is ai or not. It's more of a personality treat I believe.
this actually makes alot of sense ngl like ppl act like AI suddenly made everyone lazy thinkers but realistically the ppl who never bothered engagin deeply with stuff before probably wouldnt of anyway, ai or not

its more about mindset/curiosity level then the tool itself imo. like ive seen ppl use google lazily for 15+ years way before AI was even a thing, so this "outsourcing ur brain" thing isnt rly new either

question tho — do u think its possible for AI to make an already lazy thinker EVEN lazier tho? like even if it doesnt create the trait, could it amplify it over time n make the gap between "thinkers" and "non thinkers" even bigger then before? genuinely curious on ur take

It is absolutely terrible, but thankfully my parents have realized how useless AI can be in a lot of cases, especially Google / Gemini, where they get a different answer every time they Google something.

i strongly believe education need a full revamp - instead of the usually memorize and regurgitate out the content, we will to educate our future generaiton on critical thinking that enables them to differentiate whast right and wrong.

100% agree with this the whole memorize-and-forget system is so outdated, feels like we're preparing kids for tests instead of for life lol

critical thinking should honestly be its own subject imo, not just something that "happens" while learning history or w/e. teach kids how to actually evaluate info, spot bias, question sources... that stuff matters way more in the current age of misinformation everywhere

curious tho - how would this even look in practice? like what does a classroom teaching critical thinking actually look like day to day? more debates? case studies? cuz i feel like a lot of teachers still dont kno how to teach that way even if they wanted too

we talk about this alot but rarely see real change happen sadly

Most people don't have critical thinking skills, instead they follow the crowds. Remember QAnon?

i agree with this. ai is useful but people not treat every answer like its always correct. using it without checking other sources can make people stop thinking and researching things for themselves

I agree. AI is a great tool... but relying on it for every decision can weaken our ability to question and verify things ourselves. The best approach is to use AI as an assistant not as a replacement for critical thinking.

An answer engine reads those same contradicting sources and returns one confident paragraph. The disagreement is resolved before you ever see it. So the reflex isn't atrophying from disuse. It's just never getting cued in the first place, which is a different problem and a worse one, because you can't practice a skill you never knew was called for.

Nowadays, kids and even adults are resorting to AI for even small tasks.
That's not critical thinking skills...
I don't think you understand what Critical Thinking Skills really are
We have always succumb to automation bias when we could.
Autoblogs, machinery, CI/CD
AI just scaling that up to more non-technical perspectives.

The best AI users are still ones who plan and design along side AI.

Here is an example
Passive income
how many of you guys dreamed of having passive income.
Before you even get passive income, what needs to happen?
you need to plan, you need to get shit done
before that even comes thru.
once you set everything up already and started to earn passively
you wanna call taht, you lost critical thikning skills because now you just passively earn money?
lol alright

Exactly, that's what I've pointed out. People are becoming lazy, so they are not reading and trying to understand. They are in a hurry to make a decision or form an opinion.

You got carried away by the first sentence in a couple of paragraphs. It's a lot deeper than that. For example, this is also from the same post.
When they want to know which shoes are more comfortable, they are asking chatgpt instead of checking reviews on Amazon and other e-com sites. Again, chatgpt is influenced by Reddit marketing that pushes some brands through fake accounts.

lol?
before AI, people went to reviews
looked at a few
and formed a biased judgement
no difference
very little to few to none gona sit there and read through thousands of reviews.

Nowadays, kids and even adults are resorting to AI for even small tasks. I used to ignore it but I started to notice that this behavior is common. For example, if they want to check the date of exam results, they are checking AI overviews, which are filled with News articles that announce that results are out even before the date is announced. They do it because it gets them more clicks. Being a marketer, I instantly notice it but next generation is not aware of it. When they want to know which shoes are more comfortable, they are asking chatgpt instead of checking reviews on Amazon and other e-com sites. Again, chatgpt is influenced by Reddit marketing that pushes some brands through fake accounts. When they want to follow a diet, they are asking AI tools instead of checking ingredients & health benefits. There are tens of diets proposed by random people with their own cult religiously following it. So, obviously AI won't discredit them.

I'm not against AI, in fact I use it for half of my work. But we should know when to trust a tool and when to find an alternative. The next generation will start digging a pond with a table spoon if AI advises them to. AI lacks critical thinking and they are losing it too.

I initially started using it in university assignments, and now I am so addicted to AI that I sometimes think I don't have the abiltiy of critical thinking. We are getting so dependent on AI.

I remember people writing Google as image source in assignments. They usually ignore that Google is just a search engine with a web index and the images belongs to individual websites. Now AI is making it even more complex by taking bits & pieces of information and creating fresh content. I found such information to be false in multiple cases when I ask AI for sources to assert its claims. But there are many people who blindly trust it. That's the problem.

entire school system is designed to destroy critical thinking so they can turn you into a 9-5 tax-paying slave to keep the show running.

If AI destroys someone ability for critical thinking its a skill and IQ issue. Smart people will use AI to get even smarter, work more efficiently, etc.

Idiots will use it for idiotic things. Same as YouTube. You can watch 8h+ documentaries every day, or you can watch some random kids slop videos. Your choice.

Or in other words: PEBKAC - problem exists between keyboard and chair

The devs who were fired when the boss centered the div with Ai will be called back soon. AI is being used at scale in attacks. That can't be vibe coded easily. Also since someone runs a successful business on vulnerable tech will likely be loud on justifying they are safe. Woocommerce, most themes and plug-ins are entry points for so many vectors and angles. There are published CVE in the last few months fixing an obvious WP vulnerability. Most don't care or not bothered. The day is coming.

Ps.Ai is not simplifying everything, some critical areas will require constant learning and staying curious else negative impact.

yeah i've noticed this too. convenience can easily turn into dependency if people stop checking sources for themselves.

i think the bigger issue is people treating AI like an authority instead of a tool. its useful but you still have to question what it tells you.

You could say the same thing with the creation of Google.

You could look up anything and get answers to what you were wanting to find.

AI just makes it easier.

I do feel as though AI was never meant for casual use. Feels like a professional tool that was spec'd for the commercial market for some reason. I doubt John Everyman could pay the exorbitant rates AI should be worth for the amount of power it consumes and considering what most non-professionals use their allocations for. IDK, feels like there's a mismatch here that's giving AI both a bad rep and potentially unsustainable business model.

That's assuming... Common sense is....Common?
