I think the longest part is fixing direction after the site has already gone messy. If the keyword map, page intent and internal links are wrong, every new article just adds more cleanup later. Spend the extra time deciding what each page should win before publishing anything.

the hardest part is usually content research and figuring out the right search intent.
Technical fixes can be done pretty quickly, but finding topics worth targeting and creating something better takes much longer.
