Does it still matter when selecting backlinks.

I still prefer relevance over metrics. A site with moderate DA/DR but genuine traffic and a strong connection to the niche can be more useful than a high-metric general site.
 
Have you thought about whether things like DR and DA matter anymore when it comes to selecting backlinks? Would you rather select a link from a site that is not so strong in terms of metrics but is related to your industry.
Yes, DA/DR still have some value as quick screening metrics, but I wouldn't make them the deciding factor.

I'd generally prefer a relevant site with real organic traffic and a clean backlink profile over an unrelated high-DR site. I’d check:

Relevance → real traffic → topical authority → link placement → backlink profile → DR/DA.
