Homepage backlink or deep link to article for a new website?

I’m building backlinks for a very new niche site with little authority.
In the past, I always diversified: out of 10 backlinks, roughly 5 went to the homepage/domain/brand and 5 to inner pages.
This time I’m paying for just one backlink from a very well-known site in the same niche with a lot of organic traffic, so I want to choose carefully.
Would you point it to the homepage or to a specific article? Which option would you consider more valuable for a very new site with only a few backlinks, and why?
