Are YouTube shorts helping or hurting long term channel growth?

I think short videos are helping channels grow really well. My own channel has grown much faster thanks to Shorts.

Because short videos are a popular and convenient new trend, YouTube is heavily promoting short videos. If you seize this opportunity now, you will benefit.

Shorts can definitely help with discovery, but the audience doesn't always transfer to long-form. I've found them most useful when the Shorts are closely related to the long-form content. Otherwise, you can get lots of views without much improvement in watch time, retention, or conversions.

best moments from long videos can atrract a geniune viewer for your audience. they helps your main video to go viral. I think it's the best way for a youtube channel to get discover to new audience. if you are consistent with shorts. you will attract new audience continuously and will benefit in a long term.

shorts can bring fast exposure, but those viewers don’t always convert into long-form watchers.

Shorts only help if you treat them purely as top-of-funnel ads, not standalone content. Never post random viral Shorts just for views. Only cut the juiciest 30-second hook from your long video, link the related long video in the Shorts settings, and tell them to click for the full breakdown. If you aren't funnelling them directly to long-form, stop posting Shorts on your money-making channel

Shorts van generate views quickly, but many creators claim they attract a different audience than long-form content. Have Shorts helped grow your channel in a meaningful way or have they created challenges for audiences retention and monetization?
in my experience the short should be used as a feeder and not the entire strategies itself. if both the short and long videos target the same market segment the traffic becomes incredibly valuable.

Both should be mixed. Short form is good for bringing a new influx of viewers, but it’s a totally different audience than you’d need for long form content.

If the goal is money, I'd take 50k solid long-form views over a million random Shorts views any day. Shorts numbers look sexy on the dashboard, but sexy numbers don't always pay the bills lol
