Are YouTube shorts helping or hurting long term channel growth?

I think short videos are helping channels grow really well. My own channel has grown much faster thanks to Shorts.

Because short videos are a popular and convenient new trend, YouTube is heavily promoting short videos. If you seize this opportunity now, you will benefit.

Shorts can definitely help with discovery, but the audience doesn't always transfer to long-form. I've found them most useful when the Shorts are closely related to the long-form content. Otherwise, you can get lots of views without much improvement in watch time, retention, or conversions.

best moments from long videos can atrract a geniune viewer for your audience. they helps your main video to go viral. I think it's the best way for a youtube channel to get discover to new audience. if you are consistent with shorts. you will attract new audience continuously and will benefit in a long term.

shorts can bring fast exposure, but those viewers don’t always convert into long-form watchers.

Shorts only help if you treat them purely as top-of-funnel ads, not standalone content. Never post random viral Shorts just for views. Only cut the juiciest 30-second hook from your long video, link the related long video in the Shorts settings, and tell them to click for the full breakdown. If you aren't funnelling them directly to long-form, stop posting Shorts on your money-making channel

Shorts van generate views quickly, but many creators claim they attract a different audience than long-form content. Have Shorts helped grow your channel in a meaningful way or have they created challenges for audiences retention and monetization?
in my experience the short should be used as a feeder and not the entire strategies itself. if both the short and long videos target the same market segment the traffic becomes incredibly valuable.

Both should be mixed. Short form is good for bringing a new influx of viewers, but it’s a totally different audience than you’d need for long form content.

If the goal is money, I'd take 50k solid long-form views over a million random Shorts views any day. Shorts numbers look sexy on the dashboard, but sexy numbers don't always pay the bills lol

tbh i looks at shorts more as a discovery platform rather than the growth vehicle. If the shorts has piqued enough interest for people to watches the whole video, awesome. If not then the additional subscribers does not mean much.

Shorts can help if they match the topic of the main videos. Some viewers may watch more videos after finding a Short. Keeping the content related can help the channel grow in a steady way.

Shorts help with brand exposure, but RPM is terrible compared to long-form. If you use Shorts, make sure they directly link to a related full video on your channel so you actually funnel that short-form traffic into longer watch time

Hey, shorts can definitely help with discovery, but the audience may not always convert to long-form viewers. I think using both works best when the content is connected.

Shorts can help a channel grow if they match the main content. They can bring new viewers,
but some may only watch the short videos. Keeping the content on one main topic can help build a steady audience.

I’ve noticed a significant boost in reach with Shorts, though not every follower converts into a viewer of my long-form videos. I view Shorts as a bridge to guide followers toward that long-form content—content they are genuinely interested in. I’m also keen to see whether they watch other videos on the channel. I won't use Shorts simply to chase view counts; a large following loses its significance if those followers don't watch the main videos

Shorts are the best way to speed up your subscriber count and views on your videos. I have been experiencing this, and it does not bring a different audience. YouTube has improved the algorithm for Shorts.

Shorts can help long-term channel growth when they attract viewers. Shorts can gain subscribers quickly. But long-form content targets very different audiences. A consistent niche, strong content strategy, and balanced Shorts-to-long-form approach can reduce these challenges.

shorts and long form has its own different different algorithm system for youtube channel. in shorts form videos you can get views and subscribers easily. using shorts you can complete your first 1k subscribers easily. that will complete your channel half monetization criteria.
