most people are involved in TikTok affiliate marketing. I haven't found many people doing TikTok selling.

selling is a much more complex operation, you will need to manage inventory, get leads, fulfil orders, talk to cutomers, talk to delivery services. its a lot of hassle. thats way people prefer affiliate marketing.

but the profits it generates are substantial, too. i mostly just see people doing affiliate marketing and running ads.

tiktok shop kinda blurred the lines here recently. you can run a hybrid model dropshipping with a local 3pl so you arent dealing with bulk inventory or shipping yourself. the real headache with direct selling on tiktok isn't even the fulfillment, it is the compliance. they ban seller accounts for the smallest things and verification is a nightmare. if you can keep your shop active though the margins make affiliate look like pocket change.

I've seen many people selling products through TikTok Shop, but you still need to meet certain requirements to get approved and open a shop. Not everyone is eligible to open a TikTok Shop.

i agree with your point of view. i notice that most sellers don't seek help here.

I used to be a seller on TikTok, so I understand quite well how challenging it can be to sell on the platform. With increasingly strict rules and policies, small businesses have to invest a significant amount of resources into operations, content, advertising, order fulfillment, and customer service just to run things effectively.
Compared to selling directly, affiliate marketing is much simpler from an operational perspective. Sellers have to take care of the entire system behind the scenes, while KOLs/KOCs can focus primarily on creating content and driving conversions, and the reality is successful KOLs/KOCs can make a tremendous amount of money through affiliate marketing, I’m really not exaggerating

The TikTok platform is growing rapidly due to its very high commission rates, so the vast majority of users share a common goal: making money on the platform.

I think TikTok Shop has a lot of potential but it definitely seems less discussed than affiliate marketing I’m curious whether sellers are seeing better margins and more consistent results compared with affiliates

Currently, only a few countries are permitted to sell on TikTok. it would be great if we could tap into that.

the seller side is quieter because fulfillment returns and account health make it harder than affiliate content. the upside is better margins when you own the product.

You notice this because the affiliate marketing trend is booming, but the reality is that affiliate marketing is actually helping TikTok sellers grow even more vigorously.
what if we were the ones doing the selling? profits would be much higher

People definitely open TikTok Shops as sellers, but you see fewer of them discussing it because running inventory and fulfillment is much riskier and more complex than posting affiliate links.

I chose affiliate marketing because I didn't have to invest a lot of money to open a store.
