Tested this on two sites last year, comment links brought a bit of traffic but rankings moved zero, treat them as a traffic play not an SEO play.
Comment links works better for traffic than SEO for me. a hand full of relevant comments that actually gets people coming to the site were better than 100 profile or comment links just sitting there.I was reviewing one of my older projects and realized something interesting. the pages that received the Most engagement from Social Media Comments were not necessarily the ones that gained better rankings. Some brought decent referral Traffic, while others did almost nothing, even though the number of comment links was similar.
It made me wonder if we have been measuring the wrong thing all along. Instead of asking whether these Backlinks pass SEO value, should we be looking at the quality of the audience they bring?
Has anyone here compared social media comment backlinks against other low-cost link-building methods using real data? I'm interested in hearing recent Experiences, whether the Results were positive or completely disappointing.
