I’ve recently launched a brand-new android app and I’m trying to figure out the best way to approach the initial marketing.

The main things I’m looking for are:
  • Getting the first few hundred genuine users
  • Getting honest reviews and feedback
  • Building some initial traction
I’m especially interested in hearing from people who have actually launched and marketed their own apps. What worked for you in the early days, and what turned out to be a complete waste of time or money?

Man, launching is tough. I feel you. Hope you get those first users soon

Whenever you launch a new product, the initial challenge is creating a user experience; offering free access allows you to gather valuable, effective reviews, which in turn helps attract more customers.

Relevant communities can bring your first users faster than paid ads the feedback is useful too, since you’ll see what people actually struggle with.

For the first few hundred users, I’d focus on finding the right audience rather than just chasing downloads. Niche communities, relevant Facebook/Reddit groups, and direct outreach can be useful for getting early users and feedback, as long as self-promotion is allowed. I’d also avoid paying for low-quality installs or reviews just to inflate the numbers. Once you have some genuine users, their feedback and retention data can help you figure out what’s actually working before spending more on paid acquisition.

Yeah many suggest to go for reddit communities, but i dont think any kind of promotion does well in Reddit. they will either ban you from subreddit or drag your whole thread down
And even if you do not promote the app directly, redditors will find a way to point out that they are you are doing it just to promote

Focus on relevant communities and targeted outreach first. Get honest feedback from early users, improve the app, then scale what works.

Hey man, I have launched my iOS app, and I'm in kind of the same problem. I've been looking into different ways to distribute. If you wanna exchange ideas, Imk

early feedback is worth more than early numbers a handful of honest users can show you exactly what needs fixing.
