I was reviewing one of my older projects and realized something interesting. the pages that received the Most engagement from Social Media Comments were not necessarily the ones that gained better rankings. Some brought decent referral Traffic, while others did almost nothing, even though the number of comment links was similar.

It made me wonder if we have been measuring the wrong thing all along. Instead of asking whether these Backlinks pass SEO value, should we be looking at the quality of the audience they bring?

Has anyone here compared social media comment backlinks against other low-cost link-building methods using real data? I'm interested in hearing recent Experiences, whether the Results were positive or completely disappointing.

social media comment links have very limited direct SEO value but they can still be useful for referral traffic brand visibility and getting your content in front of the right audience treat them as a marketing channel rather than a primary link building strategy.

It might also be worth looking at how consistently each method brings useful referral traffic over time, because a smaller source that delivers reliable results can sometimes be more valuable than one that only performs well once in a while

I see them more as traffic and branding asset than real link building. a comment from the right community can bring better results than hundreds of random link imo.

Same thing happened to me. Backlinks from social media comments alone don't seem to have an impact on rankings, but seem to generate traffic to the site if there's engagement and relevance.

I reply on the traffic, engagement, and conversion metrics more than SEO benefit. For ranking purposes,I would still prefer relevant editorial backlinks over anything else.

SMM backlinks are only for authority and referral traffic but not for long-trm

If your comments are useful enough then you can still get the value. But don't reply only on SEO.

I wouldn’t build a backlink strategy around comment links expecting them to push rankings.

Most are nofollow/UGC or otherwise carry limited direct authority. Use social comments for visibility + referral traffic + natural brand presence not as a primary link building tactic.

This is what I always suggested to my guys who is asking link building suggestion from me.

In my experience, social comment backlinks are better for referral traffic than SEO. I've never seen them make a noticeable difference in rankings on their own, but they can still be worthwhile if they're bringing relevant visitors to the site.

Tbh, direct links from social comments have been so much dead for quite some tym now since most of them are either nofollow or marked as UGC. The only value you can really get is from either generating targeted referral traffic or leveraging gud comments to network with site owners.

For SEO, I would still prioritize relevant editorial backlinks over social comment links.

They probably don't pass direct 'link juice' like they used to since most are no-follow. But for brand awareness, diversifying your link profile, and maybe getting some direct referral traffic, they definitely still hold some value if placed naturally. What do you guys think?

for me , most of the social comments links are for traffic rather than ranking purposes. If the comments brings real users to your site, then they works perfectly however i would not use them as my major linking tactic.

Social media comments won't bring SEO value.
Just imagine if you are placing a billboard of your shop on a community notice board it won't make your shop directly authoritative, but if few people notices it and visit your shop it actually brings you a value in another way.
So sometimes posting a comment on a topical relevance on-going discussion might bring valuable traffic than SEO value.

Basically value of the link is who discovers you from it, not the link itself

They only work for referral traffic. Nothing more, nothing less.

Social media comment backlinks bring referral traffic and brand visibility more than rankings. I focus on attracting real visitors, while relevant backlinks from trusted websites usually have stronger SEO value.

these connections were no longer just judged on their SEO merits. some comments did not help in any way with rankings but did attract a few loyal users who eventually became customers. in my opinion the right audience is more valuable than a semingly good link.
