Feels like rankings are becoming less about just keywords + backlinks and more about brand mentions, entities, reputation and overall presence across the web.

Curious what everyone is seeing , Are you noticing the same shift or traditional links still doing most of the heavy lifting?

I think brand signals are becoming more important but traditional SEO factors still matter a lot Strong content relevant backlinks and a good user experience together seem to create the best results rather than relying on only one factor

brand mentions are super important because of social media and AI, it's always good to be mentioned by a digital parrot or appear to zombie scrollers

For me, both. As citations, we need backlinks. I'm heavily invested and have been doing tiered link building with automation, and it gives me results. Since many call it a classic technique, yeah, those work and are important.

I think traditional seo is still important but brand signals seem to matter more than they used to a strong brand can build trust with both users and search engines while good content and quality backlinks still do a lot of the work it feels more like they are working together rather than one replacing the other

You're spot on, I'm seeing the exact same thing. Traditional links definitely still move the needle, but they just can't carry the whole load alone anymore. Google is clearly leaning more on the bigger picture now, things like unlinked mentions, entity recognition, and your overall reputation across the web.

It really comes down to operating like a real brand today. If people are actually talking about your business naturally, search engines pick up on that authority. The old days of just focusing on keyword density and link counts are definitely fading.

Yeah, seeing the same thing here. Links still matter, but they seem to hit harder once Google already recognizes you as an entity/brand — unlinked mentions, PR features, consistent presence across the web all seem to feed into that now. Had a client barely build links for months but pick up a ton of unlinked mentions from industry roundups, and rankings still moved. Feels like the game shifted from "get links" to "get recognized, then links compound."

Looking at AI responses Google is giving, i 100% agree with you that brand mentions are becoming more and more important

Yes brand mentions and reputation are regarded very highly from Google and other search engines, therefore the search engines are displaying them more.

Branding has become a major part of SEO in 2026, but it's not replacing traditional SEO. Strong brands simply earn more trust from Google, making it easier to rank.
