How do you handle sites that already have a spammy backlink profile — do you clean anything up first, or just add on top?

Is it safe to hit them again with another round of Sherlock? Would that leave a footprint or duplicating links from the same domains?
 
Does it help increase the keywords ranking of the overall site?
I have a site that seems to always be stuck on page 2+ whenever I post something. Anybody find that their overall ranking actually increase?

Ordered from Sarkar back in early June for 3 keywords in a pretty competitive B2C niche. Not going to share the domain or keywords publicly (blacked out in the screenshot), but the numbers speak for themselves.

Where we started on June 10th vs. today:

  • Keyword 1 (3,600/mo volume): not ranking at all → #3
  • Keyword 2 (6,600/mo volume): #20 → #4
  • Keyword 3 (1,900/mo volume): #14 → #5
All three on page 1, top 5, in under 2 months. The first one is the standout for me — it was nowhere in the top 100 when we started and it's now #3 on a 3,600 volume term. Combined that's roughly 12k monthly searches we now have page 1 visibility on.

Communication was easy, reports came through on schedule, no chasing anyone down. Will be back with another batch of keywords. Vouch.
