Because suing abroad is highly expensive and depends on local laws, the compensation recovered might not be worth it in the end. Mainly, they just want to stop the service permanently and make sure it never comes back.

I've had well over a dozen C&Ds, and the ones from them I do not ignore, the others are paper tigers.

If you got a C&D and responded, stop and consult a lawyer. Don’t try to fix it yourself.
 
tell them to send it in writing. if they did their homework (a real one will) they will know where to send it.

just clear your footprint, use clean proxies or vps, and don't reuse any associated data.
 
I'm wondering if there is any way to unblock your account after such a letter, did you try negotiating with the lawyers by any chance?
 
@Zigger any way you can share an update? How did it go, I just got into the same situation this month, shut everything down and they are asking to sign a legal agreement now that looks quite scary
