How do you measure SEO success beyond keyword rankings?

I focus more on organic traffic, conversions and user engagement than rakings. Better leads and longer time on site tell me SEO is actually working.

keywords rankings are useful but they are not only part of seo success. I focus more on organic traffic growth , conversions , leads generated, user engagement metrics and overall ROI. in the long term the real goal of seo is to bring qualified visitors who take action , not just achieve higher rankings

Most SEO reports still focus heavily on rankings but I feel that doesn't always reflect the actual value of a campaign.. For those managing client websites or your ow projects what metrics do you consider most important when evaluating SEO performance over the long term?
It depends where your project is standing right now is it the start of a project or the website is running already.
Both on page , off page SEO are important.
In my oppinion for a website in starting phase needs guest blogging. Writing blog posts or building pages that answer exact questions people are typing into Google.

For me, rankings are just one part of the picture. I pay much more attention to organic traffic, leads, sales and conversions. A keyword can rank on number 1, but if it is not bringing business results, the ranking alone does not mean much for me.

If you're managing a campaign for a business I'd say calls/leads and revenue generated vs cost is the most important.

Rankings, and nothing else.

It's right there in the name: Search Engine Optimization.

You should draw a clear line for clients from the start: SEO gets you ranked, and just gets you ranked. CTR and conversions drive the actual business and obviously matter, but they have nothing to do with pure SEO—they belong to online marketing.

for me success is measured by growth in qualified traffic engagement metrics and conversion rates higher rankings mean little if they don't bring real business results

Ranking has become a vanity metric nowaday what really matters is organic traffic, conversion rate, and non branded click growth. In my experience, I monitor impressions CTR trends in GSC assisted conversions because that indicates the build-up of real demand. When the metrics start growing, ranking will follow by default; otherwise not

For long term SEO i focus on conversions engagement and the number of pages bringing traffic a site can gain value even when rankings fluctuate

Rankings are just one piece of the puzzle. I focus more on organic traffic growth, conversions, leads, engagement and whether the SEO work is actually helping business goals.

Search Console data like impressions, CTR, and clicks gives me a much clearer picture than rankings alone. User behavior also plays a big role.

Conversions and qualified organic traffic, 100%. Ranking #1 for a keyword that brings zero buyers is just a nice screenshot lol.

I think rankings are just one part of the picture . I usually focus more on organic traffic. conversions and user engagement because they show whether SEO is actually helping the business grow.

I look at qualified organic traffic, leads, and conversions first. Rankings are useful context, but, you know, a position increase means little if the visitors bounce or never take action. I also watch non-branded clicks and how many pages contribute traffic over time.

I like looking at how many keywords the site is ranking for overall, not just a few target keywords. Slow growth across many pages is a good sign.

I focus on user-centric metrics over rankings every time. Even if a keyword drops from #2 to #4, as long as conversions stay high, organic traffic is solid, and time on page is strong, I’ll keep doubling down on optimizing it.

Rankings are just one part of SEO. I usually look at organic traffic, conversions, user engagement and revenue impact because these metrics show the real value of the campaign.
