I’m documenting my journey here to stay accountable and to learn from people who are ahead of me.

Goal:
$20,000 AUD/month in clean profit within the next 6 months — or I quit and get a job.

Where I’m At Right Now
  • Current profit: ~$3–4k/month
  • Overall position: Break-even (no profit, no loss so far)
  • Target: At least 10 cars/month consistently
  • End goal: Open my own wreckers yard

One major advantage I already have:

Access to a good, affordable, and reliable mechanic — which is huge in this business.

How It Started (The Hard Way)

May 2025 — First Car (Painful Lesson)
  • Car: 2018 Audi A4 (crashed)
  • Issues: Fender damage, curtain airbag deployed
  • Unexpected problem: Water pump failure
  • Total cost: $14,650
  • Sold for: $10,000
Yes — a loss.

It still needed a few missing bits, and I needed cash urgently.

October 2025
  • Car: 2018 Hyundai Elantra
  • Bought for: $7,500
  • Sold for: $9,000
November 2025
  • Car: 2018 Kia Cerato Hatch
  • Bought for: $6,395
  • Sold for: $8,840
Current Summary
  • I’m not in profit yet, but I’m also not in loss overall
  • I’ve learned:
    • What cars not to touch
    • How quickly margins disappear with hidden issues
    • The importance of buy discipline
  • I now have:
    • A trusted mechanic
    • Real market experience
    • A clearer buying strategy

The Next 6 Months (Make or Break)

My commitment is simple:

Scale to $20k/month net profit

Minimum 10 cars/month

6-month deadline — no extensions

If I fail, I’ll walk away and get a job.

My end goal is to open a wreckers

That’s exactly why I’m here on BHW — to learn online marketing, inbound lead generation, and systems so that:
  • Cars come to me
  • I’m not dependent on salvage auctions
  • I’m not bidding against hundreds of big yards
  • I build direct seller pipelines

Why I’m Posting This Here

I’m here to:
  • Learn from people who’ve scaled real businesses
  • Build systems, not just hustle deals
  • Share updates — wins and failures alike
If you’ve:
  • Built inbound lead machines
  • Worked in auto, wrecking, or local lead gen
  • Scaled a hands-on business using marketing
I’m all ears.
Cheers

Thought of this today, sounds like a really interesting progress :)
I hope you turn a profit on your new cars. Pretty cool method man

I'll be following this too, don't see many journeys like this on BHW

Good job, I was wondering if you are posting on socials? the buying, restoration, the whole process? I am from Morocco, there is a guy who started small, but was documenting everything, now he owns a used cars dealership, car wash, and he is doing very well.

I don’t know what i am really doing
You do know what you are doing.

Only one bad deal out of the ones you have done is a pretty good average.

The more you do it the more you will learn too and that is as valuable as the money you earn.

Update (22/01/2025)

Basically a month update:
Did 4 cars
2 sold , 2 will be selling next month
Car 1 : Toyota camry
Buy : $5500
Sold : $7800
Car 2 : Mitsubishi Outlander (high kms)
Buy : $4000
Sold : $6900

Car 3 & 4 are still require few more things to do then probably they gonna sell by February end

Now, after all my calculations and current plans I don’t think i will able to achieve my goal because this business requires a big investment of atleast 20k+ further expenses to make a decent profit as currently i am spending i earn through my job and then buy & sell.

I am looking after few more things to start with 2-3k in Australia so i can build up some more money and then restart this whole thing.

I am bit confused atm… is anyone able to comment something?

hope you doing good, i liked to read about your journey, wish you good luck and hope for more updates

hope you doing good, good luck in your journey will wait for more updates

Update time guys and last post on this topic

so basically i am doing well with this hustle and probably will close this month at $11k clean profit.

My learning : The real hurdle is not sourcing, fixing and selling cars but cashflow is.

Thanks guys
