Has anyone else started ignoring youtube's thumbnail suggestions ?

Yes, I barely notice YouTube's thumbnail suggestions anymore. I usually choose videos based on the title, creator, or topic instead.

Veteran creators always use custom designed thumbnails optimized via YouTube's native Test & Compare feature rather than auto suggestions, as AI merely extracts random frames without understanding the visual psychology that drives Click Through Rate.
 
I always add my own, generating modern thumbnails via chatgpt makes very good.

i've tested those youtube's generated thumbnails and sometimes they come up with something decent, however, whenever i ran A/B tests comparing a YouTube generated thumbnail with one i made myself ( but also using AI tools like ChatGPT ) - my own thumbnail idea always had a better conversion rate. So i'd recommend putting a bit more thought into it
 
They're useful for spotting obvious issues, but they don't always match what resonates with your specific audience. I always test my own ideas first, and if a thumbnail underperforms, I'll iterate based on real CTR and audience retention data rather than blindly following the suggestions.
 
If you have a certain style that you want your channel to have, it's best to stick with your own thumbnails. YouTube suggestions are not always the best.

But i believe that there may be some interessting tips in utubes advice. however, it cannot be considered as the last word. the thumbnail creation should not follow any strict rules bcuzz it has to raise interest nd satisfy viewers expectations. i would use these suggestiions in order to receive some ideas; however, iwould also test various thumbnails.
 
YouTube's suggestions are merely automated screen grabs, which is why custom designed thumbnails consistently yield far higher CTR.
 
things I often do, never rely on auto generated picks, but definitely use YouTube’s Test & Compare feature to split test multiple human made designs.
