Well it's been fun folks but it looks like Reddit may be ending their partnership with Google soon.

"The two companies struck a deal in 2024 to allow the search giant to train its AI models on Reddit’s content. But as Google’s AI summaries reduced traffic to websites from the search results page, Reddit is reconsidering the benefits of the deal, according to the Journal, citing people familiar with the matter.

According to the report, the $60 million-a-year deal is ending soon, and the companies are in talks about potentially renewing the partnership."

At this point Reddit is already destroying my ass with their updates, no sticky upvotes anymore, comments and posts heavily monitored, panels obliterated...if they cancel this shit, it's the end, maybe something else easier to spam appears

The solution to upvotes is to be completely insane like me and post why are anime tiddies so attractive to me on anime subreddits.

Worked great for my degenerate self.
 
Honestly I don't think the Google deal ending changes much for people posting on Reddit, at least not short term. The bigger problem is what @Venusaur said, Reddit itself is making the place less predictable... mods/filters are the real bottleneck now, not whether Google can train on it. If they don't renew, maybe Reddit pushes harder on logged-in traffic and paid access, which prob makes throwaway style posting even more annoying. For SEO it's still worth watching tho, because Reddit results have been getting shoved everywhere for a while and that faucet can turn fast.
 
If Google sends less traffic to websites, Reddit may start questioning whether selling content access is still worth the money.

Reddit was already able to rank threads before this partnership, in fact a year before this partnership, I had sub NSFW subs ranking on Google, it took just days to get to page 1, without any additional work done. All I needed to do was create the sub and create the post for the keyword.

No, Reddit parasite SEO isn't dead, but spammy tactics are losing effectiveness.
Success now depends on creating genuine, valuable content instead of exploiting Reddit's authority.
 
Google displays answers from Reddit right on the search page, so fewer people click to visit Reddit's website. Because of this, Reddit wants Google to pay them more money for using their posts to train AI.
 
Interesting update. If this changes how Reddit performs for SEO, I'd be interested in seeing a recent sample or case study based on your current approach. I'd like to understand how you're adapting before placing an order
 
Reddit ranking isnt new.. anyone who was testing it before 2024 already knew this the google deal just brought more attention to it. Reddit has had strong authority for years

If the deal changes I don't think it will stop reddit from being valuable because it still has millions of active users and fresh discussions every day for SEO I would keep focusing on building real value on Reddit instead of chasing short term tricks since those methods rarely last.
Search and AI keep changing so the best long term strategy is to create useful content that people actually want to read and share.

If the deal changes I don't think it will stop reddit from being valuable because it still has millions of active users and fresh discussions every day. for SEO, I would keep focusing on building real value on Reddit instead of chasing short-term tricks, since those methods rarely last.

If the agreement is not renewed, It could be an interesting shift for both companies, Either way, It's a reminder not to rely too heavily on any single traffic source.
 
even if the partnerships changes then i do not think will reddit will lose its value overnight. i would avoid relying on one platform anyway and focus on building traffic from multiple sources.
