Followers are growing but engagement keeps dropping

Hey all,
Seen a few accounts recently where followers numbers keep increasing but likes, comments and story views do not seem to follow.
Is this mainly an algorithm issue, audience quality problem or something else? For those managing instagram pages then what metrics are you paying the most attention to these days besides follower count?
Would love to hear your thoughts.
One of the things that I would be concerned about is where these new followers come from. A reel might get people to follow it because of its virality however, these followers may have absolutely no interest in the other parts of the account. It will be necessary to compare the engagement levels among followerrs who joined due to various content types.

A bigger audience doesn't always mean a more engaged one. These days I pay more attention to saves, shares, profile visits, and DMs.

this may be heavily dependent on who ur followers actually are. if u are not engaging them and they do not care about your posts ur numbers may look good but engagement remains low. nowadays i focus much more on saves, shares nd returniing visitors who r coming back for more.

Another observation i have made is that follower acqiuisition and engagement are based on totally not related types of content. For instance, a reel may earn you many followers, who do not necessarily like your other posts. It would be better to compare the amount of engagement per type of content and see how many people return to your page.

for what i think its more about content mismatch followers come from one thing but content changes

follower count alone does not always show account health because audience quality and engagement matter more
i usually focus on reach saves shares watch time and comments since they show how interested the audience actually is.
