Do you ever avoid publishing a good idea on Reddit because someone might copy it ?

Hi,

Sometimes I will come up with a content idea, traffic source or growth method that seems promising. Instead of sharing it publicly I keep to it myself because I am worried that if it works other people will copy it and the opportunity will disappear.

But if I keep it private then I realize that I am missing the feedback that could makes the idea more better.

Do you stops yourself from posting good ideas for the same reason or do you believe it is better to share everything ?

I want to know how others think about it.

Yes, sometimes if I think an idea gives me a real competitive advantage, I usually test it first before sharing it publicly. Once I have already benefited from it, I don't mind discussing it and getting feedback from others. I think execution matters more than the idea itself. Most people won't take action even when you tell them exactly what works.
 
If it's an idea that can generate a lot of money, then sharing it widely will likely lead to many people copying it, and some of them may even become more successful than you.
 
Most opportunities don't disappear because they're shared they disappear because people stop improving them. Feedback can often help you refine an idea faster than working on it alone. My advice is to share enough to get useful feedback, but keep the parts that give you a real competitive advantage private until you've tested them properly.
 
yeah bro totally relate, i never share my best sauce here coz people copy fast and saturate the whole thing tbh.

Yes, it happens with me also. But in my opinion never stop yourself to post good ideas because anyone can't copy your idea if you share it with some limitations. Of course if you keep it absolutely you missed the feedback. It is better to share good ideas with everyone.
 
I think most people can copy an idea but everyone can not execute it well. So I don't mind sharing ideas especially if it helps me to get useful feedback.
 
Yes, sometimes this also happens with me. But I also think for most of the ideas execution matters more than the idea itself. So, I post publicly to discuss them.
 
We only share the surface-level ideas with external parties, while keeping the core execution secrets strictly confidential;
we only communicate fully with a small number of trusted, non-competitive individuals to obtain feedback and optimize our ideas.
 
I think most people already know that's gonna happen, they either share it on purpose or leave out some of the important details.
 
I've learned a great deal from Reddit over the years, so whenever I come up with a good idea, I'm happy to share it and discuss it with the community.

Why would you share it on reddit?

If you have a good idea, you should be focused on executing the idea above all.
 
I would keep the details private until i have tested the idea properly. Once i know it works, I'm happy to share the general approach and discuss it. That way you still get useful feedback without giving away everything too early.
 
Ideas rarely fail because someone copied them. They fail because people underestimate the amount of work required to execute them. A person can copy a content idea, but they cannot copy months of testing, optimization, audience understanding and experience behind it. I would say that the best strategy is to
  • Share the knowledge
  • Protect the competitive details
  • Keep improving your execution
 
You definitely don't need feedback if your idea was proven effective. Just take the loot and don't share it publicly...
But if you have just an idea that you never tested, I can almost guarantee you that someone else already tested it and can give you a feedback that will save you time, money and nerve cells.

I have spent 7 months building projects (that I thought were super good ideas) and never checked if someone else's experience about this, and was building everyday... At the end I went just -2,000$ on resources, and I did not count the money I could have made if I was doing something that I already proven effective... Instead of doing what brings me money I went into building projects that only looked like perspective, but I didn't know about how s**** google SEO is, that in google ads you cannot be profitable using your personal money and etc...

(They were white hat projects btw).

So IMO if you can test the idea fast, test it and see if its effective. But if it needs time, better "share" and ask for feedback, or just search for already existing feedback.
