Yes people are testing it but it's weak & inconsistent fine for short term or low competition not a solid long term strategy
For sites like reddit, the responses and overall engagement will determine the ranking.Youtube, reddit, linkedin, etc. all work as parasites. If algorithm favors something, you can use it to rank for that keyword.
Same is the case with other platforms. If Google wants to put a reddit post on first page, they'll do it at any cost. If the ranking reddit post has 10 upvotes, you can beat it with your post having 11 upvotes.
