After gaining good attention and subscribers you can easily rank the long videos as well.

They did not become popular overnight but continuied to get steady view counts every month. it is also interesting to note that sometimes updating thumbnaills and titles for old videos could give them a new life.
Videos that capture the viewer attention within the first few seconds while hitting right to the point have yielded me the best results. simpler videos with easily identifiable themes have sometimes yielded better results than more highlly edited ones. i believe that being consistent nd knowing ur audience is importtant.
