Is Reddit now owned or soon to be bought by Google's owners or are they just partnering up like Batman & Robin?

So I'm launching my new website to go with my BHW marketplace thread and everything's set up almost.

But one very noticetable thing happens when you log into the site via Google Chrome.

This Pops up:


They are literally suggesting for no reason, Go to Reddit instead and my site might be mimmicin for no real reason other than maybe "reddit" is in the URL?

I've never seen this done with any other site but it's a clear effort to divert traffic from a site people might be looking for to their preferred target

Just kinda blew my mind a bit. I think my target customer wouldn't care & maybe this will go away over time??? I dont know but it's noteworthy I thought.

It definitely shows to me Google's aligned with Reddit more than just search and perhaps in the future we'll see news of how the majority share holders of Google have actually taken everything in reddit to control it as well

The majority shareholder of Google push their will on companies so it would totally make sense

I wouldnt read that much into it. Its more likely chrome is matching the URL to something users commonly visit than google deliberately trying to redirect your traffic.

It happens to every site that matches a brand name. Even if you have amazon in domain name, they'll do the same. Their safe web filters block game hacks CPA sites entirely and load a warning page advising people not to visit the site. Google intentionally does this to encourage people to visit established brands instead of newbie sites that could be scams. If a lot of people visit your site and you gain brand searches, authority and trust scores, brand mentions, reviews, etc., they'll remove that warning pop-up.

I don't think Google is trying to buy Reddit. They have a commercial partnership that gives Google access to Reddit's content for AI training and search features, but Reddit is still an independent public company. The Chrome prompt is more likely related to recognizing Reddit in the URL than evidence of common ownership.

It seems like the companies are not going to acquire Reddit but will collaborate with it inbetter way..
