What is the most overlooked SEO factor in 2026?

I noticed when it comes to SEO everyone talks about content, backlinks, and AI. But what do you think is the most overlooked factor that still has a big impact on rankings today?
I'd say internal linking is still one of the most overlooked ranking factors. A strong site structure helps Google understand your content and spread authority much better than most people realize.

For me, it's original insights.. AI has made creating content easy, so most articles end up saying the same thing.

If you add something original like your own experience, a case study, or real data, your content stands out and is more valuable to both users and search engines.

I think understanding search intent is still one of the most overlooked factors. Even with great content and strong backlinks, pages often struggle if they don't answer what users are actually looking for.

Search Intent, AI overviews, Link quality and Citations

Indexability would be my guess. I have noticed great content going unseen just because of poor link structure between important pages, accidental no indexing, and exclusion from the crawler paths in google. Before working on additional backlinks, I would ensure that google is able to reach the necessary pages properly.

In my opinion, content decay is one of the things that people often underestimate. i have encounntered websites where they continue to generate new webpages, yet the old articles get slowly ranked down due to lack of updates. In some cases, updating the content turns out to be more effective than generating a new piece of content.

I think internal linking is one of the most ignored things in SEO. Many people focus only on backlinks but forget to connect their own pages properly, which can help rankings.

Competitor analysis. Lots of people just create websites in a way they think is okay and expect Google to give them traffic just because their website is "good". The right way is to find out what competitors who are already getting traffic do and do the same, or better.

There are many elements that can be easily overlooked, such as friction removal. Little problems such as annoying pop ups, unorganized design, or poor mobile interaction may not appear on SEO lists, but they do have an effect on user experience. If users are leaving your website bcz of an unpleasant experience, even top notch content will not save it.

Technical SEO—especially improving Core Web Vitals, site structure, and internal linking—is still one of the most overlooked factors that can significantly boost rankings.

Something that I do not think people give enough attention to is the crawl efficiency of their websites. There are many sites out there that have hundreds of unnecessary pages, broken internal links, and orphaned pages, and then they ask why it takes ages for google to crawl their important pages.
Before focusing on increasing backlinks and creating additional 50 articles, it would be beneficial for you to ensure that Google can easily find your important pages and index them.

hmm internal links and connectivity within inside your site
How easily navigable. i think is the best to keep all things in nice way

SEO can bring visitors, but branding helps turn those visitors into loyal readers. I would focus on both content quality and building trust.

one point that is often overlooked is index bloat. If Google needs to crawl through hundreds of not relevant, out of date or duplicate content pages, your valuable pages may get overlooked. in some cases, the importance of removing irrelevant pages from index outweighs the effort to publish yet other blog post.
