Is website speed affect rankings

A slow site can negatively affect both users and search engines, making speed optimization a worthwhile SEO investment.

Website speed is how fast your pages load for visitors, and Google rewards fast sites. Slow websites lose customers, so search engines rank fast sites higher to keep users happy.

I was thinking this too, but 3 month ago I started a website. 100 % AI but everything write with Claude Opus.
Stack astro v5 + cloudfare.
Speed in page test is 100 %. First time in years for me.
Google don't care at all... He still prefer my WordPress website stat in same time. Obviously it's only one test... enough for me.

Page loading speed is a direct ranking factor. But it doesn't mean that you can outrank authority sites with a fast loading webpage. However, Google will reduce your rankings if you site speed is lower than your competitors.

I ran into this myself last year when my blog felt like it was stuck in quicksand. Cutting back on bulky plugins and compressing my images gave my load times a real shot in the arm. If you use tools like PageSpeed Insights, they're free and actually break down what bits of your site are dragging their feet, which makes fixes a lot less of a guessing game.
