I’ve seen new sites get a nice bump just by tightening their internal links, almost like giving Google a clear map instead of a treasure hunt. But once that low-hanging fruit is picked, progress slows without some kind of outside boost. I usually focus on linking my pages in a way that keeps people clicking around, then later sprinkle in a few easy backlinks from places I already hang out online.

Been there, and boy, wrangling those first few months is wild. I focused on linking my own posts together in a way that made sense for readers, sorta like breadcrumbs. That kept folks poking around longer and kept bounce rates from getting silly. Once my structure felt tight, it was way easier asking for backlinks, since the site didn’t look like a hot mess.

For a new website i would focus on internal linking first. A good site structure helps search engines crawl your pages and makes it easier for visitors to find related content. Once you have a solid content base then i would start investing more time in earning quality backlinks.
