There is a buzzword that if GEO is the new SEO or There should be a conversation on GEO VS SEO. or last but not least if SEO is dead.

To me its just SEO. I would not even say they are both the same thing. I don't want to populate the word GEO.

Its just SEO man.

Before we used to say javascript SEO, Wordpress SEO etc etc.

At the end its just SEO, Right?

You just need to pop up on the AI engine and start to rebrand SEO as GEO?

No. No need.

You just need to focus out of the box this time. Not just search engine only. Social media, AI engine, PR as well.

But hey guys, I like the acronym SEARCH EVERYWHERE OPTIMIZATION though.

yeah pretty much. imo geo is mostly just seo adapting to a new type of search. people love inventing new acronyms for everything. the goal is still the same. be the best answer wherever people are looking.

GEO is basically just an advancement of SEO rather than being another separate entity altogether. The objective remains unchanged as always which is to get visibility and credibility. The only difference now is that we will be optimizing our work not solely based on search engines but also Google, AI assistants, social media sites and even message boards among others. Search Everywhere Optimization seems like a more appropriate term for it.

Different platforms, same objective. I'd still call it SEO

Google clicks are too expensive now. Meta’s AI targeting has gotten very smart, making it much easier to get cheaper leads if you use good video ads.

I see it the same way. SEO has not changed it has simply expanded. Today, it is about making your content visible across search engines, AI tools, social media, and other platforms where people look for information. The fundamentals of creating valuable content still matter most.

people just rename seo and then overexplain it.:)
isn’t really new work, it’s still intent + content + distribution.

I agree, The labels keep changing but the goal is still getting your brand discovered wherever people search, The channels evolve, the mindset stay the same.

I dont think SEO is dead. We just need to optimize for more channels now, not only Google.

search everywhere optimization actually nails it. visibility in AI answers and social search all matter now but the fundamentals haven’t changed.

No, they're not the same thing. Generative AI is really different from SERP. While in the case of search engines that incorporate generative AI into their SERP like Google and Bing do, one could argue that they're almost the same thing, since appearing on the SERP could increase your chances of appearing in the AI overview or GEO result. There are other AI agents/platforms that don't function like search, and they do have a good userbase and can drive traffic. In my opinion, it's not just a buzzword. it's something any serious business should consider.

I'm still trying to understand the practical difference between SEO and GEO. Has anyone here tested both on the same website and noticed measurable results? I'd really appreciate a real-world example before focusing more on GEO

I completely agree with this take. At the end of the day, all these new buzzwords like GEO or AEO are just natural evolutions of the exact same core goal: making your content highly crawlable, authoritative, and structured. Whether an algorithm displays your page as a traditional blue link, an AI Overview snippet, or a chat citation, the fundamental groundwork remains identical. Focusing on overall digital footprint and user intent beats chasing every new marketing acronym that pops up.

the little difference between SEO and GEO is
the SEO is work for websites ranking and GEO is a advance search engine who helping to provide better results.

I see it the same way. SEO is evolving, not disappearing. AI search is just another channel, so the focus should still be on creating useful content and building real authority rather than chasing new buzzwords.

  • Agreed. SEO isn't dead—it's just expanding. Search, AI, social, and PR all work together now. "Search Everywhere Optimization" is a great way to think about it.
