Anyone else still relying on WhatsApp and spreadsheets to manage field staff?

I've noticed a lot of small businesses still manage attendance through WhatsApp messages, phone calls, and spreadsheets.

It works... until someone forgets to check in, payroll comes around, or a client asks who was actually on site.

I'm curious how everyone here handles field teams.

Have you found a system that actually saves time, or do you still prefer keeping things manual?

There are a lot of free and open-source tools available to streamline this but I've seen a lot of businesses stick to their "old" methods as they resist any change to their current system. Sometimes even these softwares are unreliable.

The only onces who switch to these softwares are the ones constatly facing issues using their old system (excel, whatsapp)

I agree. That's actually something I've noticed while building Trackly. Most businesses stick with spreadsheets until they become more work than they're worth. The decision to switch usually comes after repeated mistakes, not because they want another tool.

As long as I get a photo of the finished work and a copy of the signed bill of lading, I couldn't care less if my employees left for a half hour to get lunch and check their phones.

If I can't trust a worker to complete their assigned work, that says more about my hiring practices than it does about my internal job tracking.

Is it just me who absolutely hates WhatsApp.

I can't stand it yet the weird thing is I'm a Facebook messenger slut.
