Is anyone getting good reach but less followers on Instagram ?

I've noticed something similar recently.

It feels like getting views has become easier than converting those viewers into followers. Maybe people are consuming more content through recommendations without ever visiting the profile anymore.

yah i observe the same thing too bro, reach not seem to translate into followers insight like in the past. i guess ig is optimizing more for content consumption rather than profile visits. we can see that videos with a clear niche, trigger to follow, and a good cta can convert much better than viral content bro

agree that cause reach seems easier to get than actual followers cause to attract them to follow it may require other components. people would watch, like, and but dont spend time to visit the profile, they only watch the profile and consi to follow when the content gives them a strong reason to follow

Some of my reels are getting decent reach and views but the number of new followers coming from the reach is very lower. A video performs well, get likes and shares but no new followers.

Previously, a reel with similar performance would result in the increase of new followers.

Has anyone else noticed this recently ? What do you think causing it ?
Sure, that is what I see as well. It looks like Insta is trying to show users more content even from people who do not follow you, but whether they will follow or not will depend on how well your profile and niche are set up.

Same pattern here across a few accounts. Most of the reach IG is handing out now is reels-feed / explore traffic - people surfing, not hunting for accounts to follow - so follow intent on that reach is basically zero no matter how good the view count looks.

What used to drive follows was a reel making someone think "who is this" and tapping through. Now the algo is happy to just feed them the next video without ever routing them to your profile, so a viral standalone reel that's complete in itself gives them no reason to chase more.

Two things that have actually moved the needle for me:
  1. Put the account identity inside the reel itself - first 2-3 seconds plus on-screen handle/text, not buried in the caption.
  2. Make the first 3 pinned reels on the grid deliver the exact same thing that went viral. If someone does tap through and hits mixed content, they bounce.

And split the metric like marcotwzrd said - profile-visit rate vs visit-to-follow rate. If visits are up but follows are flat, it's a profile problem, not a reel problem.

I think what you should focus on to have enough information to evaluate more correctly is to having different type of content on different accounts.

The more accounts and certain type of content on it would help you understand better what's actually works in certain niche of content.

A few accounts would not provide you enough information to analyze whether or not the content is not working or not, but to have more accounts with different formats of video will be much more informative for you to learn about it.

thats not a bug, its reach and follow being two different decisions. a reel going wide means the CONTENT cleared the bar, low follows off that reach means the content didnt make anyone need more of YOU specifically. usually its content that performs as a standalone hit but has no personal thread pulling people to the profile, no reason to expect the next one to be as good. viral-but-anonymous. fix is on the profile side and the reel ending: give a reason to follow, not just a reason to watch. good reach is actually the hard half solved, dont waste it.

I have observed the same thing as well. Reach is just the beginining nowadays, and turning viewers to followers relies heavily on whether you have made clear through your profile about what the viewer gets out of following you. The reel may attract attention, but it is the overall theme of your content that keeps them hooked.

Most reach today is by way of people who jstt consume content and then move on. Normally, I analyse profile visitations and why the person will choose to follow based on the Reel. When there is only 1 problem solved through content without generating interest, views will not lead to followers.

Don't worry about that, because nowadays with the new IG algos even having followers doesn't mean much, if the reels generally don't perform well, it won't be shown to the people who are following you, but if it does, it'll get shown to everyone, including the ones who are not following you. So, it doesn't matter either way. Just focus on reels getting more reach, and try converting from reels to DMs, via that current on the hype method, comment to DM thing.
.
Yeah totally agree, followers are just a vanity metric nowadays.

your reel is being shown to cold viewers who like/share but aren’t your audience, so follow rate stays low

You should have good content so that people follow and reach increase

Having many views doesn't necessarily mean having many new followers. If viewers visit your profile but don't see a clear topic or value, they're less likely to click "follow." Views and followers are two different metrics; you should identify what content truly brings followers instead of focusing solely on views

Yes, I have noticed that to Instagram now focuses on recommending content more than accounts.

This have been happening for quite a while now, but, tbh, it don't matter that much, because even if the user just like or interact in your content in anyway, it'll eventually keep appearing to him. Sometimes is even better than begin following, because ig don't show your content to all your followers since a while

Reach is decent, but turning that exposure into consistent follower growth is the real challenge now.

The new algorithm pushes broad reach but drops conversion, so you must add a strong Call to Action at the end and optimize your Bio to convert casual viewers into followers.

Sometimes the photos I post attract a lot of attention and achieve great reach, even though my Instagram account has relatively few followers.

I have seen similar results lately Reach alone does not seem to convert like it used to People often enjoy a reel then move on without visiting the profile Having a very clear niche and giving viewers a reason to come back has helped improve follower growth for many creators
