A competitor has created spam backlinks pointing to our website. Please help us resolve this issue.

After working hard, my website held the #1 position on Google for 1 year and 9 months. Recently, a competitor took over the top ranking, and my site dropped to the second page of the search results. Around the same time, spam backlinks using keywords such as "drugs" and "methamphetamine" started pointing to my website.

Can you tell me how to retaliate? How can I obtain spam backlinks?

Create spam link for them also?
 
You can create a list of the links and report to google with their link removal form
 
Google has an official Disavow Tool for this.

But I don't think the drop comes from spam links. Check if your competitor has got any new links lately.

Do you have any samples of the backlinks you can share? Either here or in DM?
 
It's clearly a negative SEO campaign. You should review all aspects of it instead of spam backlinks alone. You need a technical audit and competitor analysis to see what has really changed over time. It's better to check content quality and user intent mismatch as well.
 
Don't retaliate with spam backlinks, it can hurt you more than your competitor. Instead, audit your backlink profile, document the spam links, and focus on strengthening your site with better content, internal linking, and quality backlinks. In many cases, Google ignores random spam links, so the ranking drop may be due to other factors rather than a negative SEO attack.
 
Trying to fight spam with more spam is rarely worth it and can make things worse. A better approach is to review your backlink profile, disavow genuinely harmful links if needed, refresh and improve your content, and earn a few relevant, high quality backlinks. Also, check for any technical issues or recent Google updates, as those are often the real reason behind sudden ranking drops.
