******** links can pass SEO value while nofollow links tell search engines not to treat the link the same way. That said I still like good nofollow links because they can bring real traffic and make your backlink profile look more natural.
the main difference is simple. ******** links can pass authority, while nofollow links tell search engines not to pass it. that doesn't mean nofollow links are useless though. they can still bring traffic, visibility, and sometimes lead to natural backlinks.
my opinion, i wouldn't obsess over the ratio. a natural backlink profile usually has a mix of both
It's basically intent signaling. If you wanna tell googlebot that a link is sponsored or not really endorsed but just meant fr traffic, you no follow it.
The old thing about passing PR hsa evolved into something else now, involving logged in user signals and advanced user tracking, do follow links no longer automatically pass PR by itself
