How do you evaluate the quality of a backlink opportunity?

Hi,
I am working on backlink creation from long time but i didn't get the positive results. I think i need to change my backlink creation strategy.
So, how do you evaluate the quality of backlink opportunity? Give me some advices I am waiting for your responses.

For Long time : How long in years/months?
What kind of backlinks are creating : after competitors ananlysis? or manually finding? are you creating profile backlinks, web 2.0 blogs?

I have two methods myself.
1. I find high authority sites with backlink opportunity. I publish content that relates my niche to that website.
2. I find niche discussion websites where i build a profile then work my reputation there similar to reddit, then subtly post about my business.

It takes some time but it is better than working on backlinks that will never get indexed or won't give you any benefit even after getting indexed.
 
What kind of backlink? Guest post, Wikipedia, pbn?
For example if you are buying guest post you wanna make sure
1) real site not a link farm. Typical link farm site is like a news site with evey topic.
Site should be specific niche or subniche
2) real traffic not fake traffic
3) ranking for real keywords not made up keywords
4) ranking for branded and non branded keywords.
5) high ahrefs dr, moz da and semrush da.
 
I tend to look at relevance first. A backlink from a site that actually gets traffic and is relevant to your niche is often worth more than a higher metric from an unrelated site.

On the contrary, I give more importance to relevance and actual traffic compare to their DA/DR. Backlink from that relevant website which brings actual visitors would always prove better compared to those highly rated but irrelevant links.

Moreover, you should never ignore the contents and on-page SEO optimizatiio, as good backlink would function even more effectively if needed for ranking purposes.

There are very few things I focus on:
1.Niche relevance
2.Real search traffic (people now fake it) from actual keywords.
3. Site's backlinks

These 3 are the most important for me. There might be a few others but when you nail this, the result is always good.

I look at relevance first then check traffic. A backlink from a niche related site with real visitor is worth far more than dozen of high DA links.

If the website link to everyone, I skip it. A neutral out boned link profile is good sign.
 
Just keep in mind that a backlink should has as closest topic to yours as possible.
 
I evaluate backlinks based on domain authority, relevance to the niche, organic traffic, and the site's overall trustworthiness.
 
I care more about relevance than metrics now. If the site has real traffic, covers my niche and the link fits naturally in the content it is usually worth more than a high DR site with no real audience. Chasing metrics alone wasted a lot of time for me.
 
for me the best backlinks come from websites that people actually visit a relevant contextual link on a trusted site has consistently performed better than a high metric link from a low quality directory or PBN

I Look at relevance, organic traffic, indexing, and content quality before DA. A relevant link on a trusted, active sites is usually the better choice.

I wil ignore DR/DA and look for the legitimacy of the website as well as if the site generate organic trafic and relate to the theme. This particular backlink will have value regardles of DR/D as there are time when the natural backlink is worth much more.

Good backlinks come from highly authoritative, relevant websites to yours.

I am puting aside the focus on number and concentrating instead on relevancy trafic, god content and real people. sometime a simple backlink is better than a highly rated domain link.
 
I focus on relevance, organic traffic, and a clean backlink profile. One quality backlink is usually better than many low-quality ones. Thanks for starting this discussion!

For the domain you're looking to build on, look at:
RDs - referring domains, rather than total backlinks
Traffic - is the domain actually getting visits
Indexation - does a site:domain search bring back loads of indexed results or just a few (or none)
Ranks - is the site actually ranking for anything with more than xxx monthly searches
 
Here is the checklist I personally use:

  1. Niche Relevancy - Site must be relevant to my niche
  2. Organic Traffic - The site should have some Organic traffic. Start with 1k Monthly traffic site.
  3. Keyword ranking - The traffic must not be from here and there keywords. But actual niche keywords.
  4. Site Age- It's okay to get links from new sites, if it is genuine site. But aged sites are better
  5. Backlinks - Do a quick scan of its backlinks. If the backlinks profile looks natural, the link will be beneficial.
  6. Authority - DA/DR can be manupulative. But still after all the above points checked, the DA/DR of the domain should be considered.
