Technical SEO works as a foundation and not as a ranking button. in my opinion, dealing with indexing problems, improving internal links, and ensuring that the right pages get crawled by search engines is far more beneficial than worrying about every small technical detail. If all the basics have been covered, it is likely that the content lacks Authority.
Technical SEO is important, but by itself it rarely moves rankings much if content and backlinks are weak. In my experience, fixing/crawl indexing issues, improving core web vitals and removing duplicate content had the biggest impact but only after pairing them with better content.
Another aspect which I do not see talked about often enough is reducing index bloat. I have seen websites perform better by pruning the unnecessary URLs from google's index than by trying to optimize all of them. In some cases, ranking has improved simply bcz google focuses on the important pages.
I believe that the greatest benefeits from technical SEO come from solving a specific issue rather than just ticking off all the boxes on a list. i have seen more progress made from fixing index issues, structuring a website, and making google understand its pages than from increasing speed scores.
