Where it still works well: visual, evergreen niches, exactly the ones you listed (lifestyle, health, DIY, recipes, home, affiliate). Stuff people plan and save for later. It works terribly for time-sensitive or text-heavy/B2B niches.
What changed: you can't just spam pins anymore. Fresh pins (new images, not re-pinning the same ones) and consistency are what the algo rewards now. It's a slower burn, you pin steadily for a few months before it compounds, but once it does the traffic is more stable than a single Google update can wipe out.
So worth it if your niche is visual and you'll stay consistent. Not worth it as a quick-traffic hack or for a niche nobody saves pins about.
