The basic difference is that do follow links can pass ranking signals while no follow links tell search engines not to treat the link the same way for ranking process.
That said no follow links can still bring referral traffic, brand exposure and sometimes help with faster discovery of your content so they are not useless.

My point was that they can still contribute to a natural backlink profile, referral traffic, and overall brand visibility. In my experience, having a healthy mix of both link types looks much more natural than relying only on ******** links.
