Since content creation has become easier through AI if feels like choosing the right niche is now more important than producing content itself are you seeing niche selection become the biggest factor in success?

it's true that AI has shifted the balance, but I'll put it a little differently: AI doesn't make "content" less important. It makes mainstream content cheaper and more redundant :)
So, I agree that niche selectionn is becoming more important, but what determines long-term success isn't just choosing a good niche, but choosing a niche where you can build a hard-to-replicate competitive advantage. that's what AI hassn't yet made cheap and mainstream. ;)
 
AI has made content production easier, which means niche selection and audience understanding matter more than ever. A lot of people can create content now, but far fewer choose niches with clear demand, realistic competition, and strong monetization potential.
 
Generic niches are flooded fast.

The winners are usually the ones who pick a specific niche, understand the audience, and add real experience instead of just publishing more AI content.

Agree...content is easier to make now, so standing out matters more than ever. Niche selection isn't everything, but it's definitely becoming harder to get wrong

Something that's worked for me is using low-key keywords and long-tail phrases nobody’s chasing after yet, instead of going for the big fish everyone wants. I keep a running list of little problems or quirks my audience talks about on Reddit and Discord, then make content filling those gaps. In 2026, it’s like mining gold in spots others keep walking past. These rabbit tracks lead straight to loyal, engaged followers.

Now thats an interesting method. Kinda like free service users for market research.
 
AI made informational niches redundant as these sites are only getting impressions but no clicks. It's almost impossible to drive traffic to your site unless you have a unique angle or dedicated followers. Having a third party traffic source is helpful as you don't rely too much on Google. This is the reason a lot of people shifted to Instagram and tiktok as main source of income instead of using them as traffic sources.

Sure, a niche plays an unprecedented role in nowadays, but not as find your niche and become successful.
AI has made content production equally accessible for everybody so , the decisive factor becomes the audience that you are writing for and whether this person has any unresolved problems or even needs to buy anything from you. General and broad is that kills many websites in silence.
Winning strategy is always based on narrowing of already existing large niches.
 
I believe that AI has elevated the significance of distribution to the same level as niche selection. You can have a better niche and still have trouble if you are only relying on Ggl. The sites I see doing well are building an audience through newsletters, communities or social platforms along with search, so they are not relying on one traffic source.
