According to me, youtube shorts helps the conetent creaters to grow fast beacuse people love to watch the short videos instead of long ones. But it also depends on your niche if you are delivering the funny content then you can go for shorts.

yeah everyone saying they are good for reach is right but there is a major catch. if you build a channel on shorts, those subscribers are basically dead weight for your long form. the algorithm treats them completely differently and if you post a long video, your shorts subs wont click it, which ruins your CTR and kills the video impressions. @bravis mentioned using them as top of funnel which works, but you have to link the short to a related long form video directly through the editor link tool since they killed regular links in descriptions. otherwise mixing them on one main channel usually ruins your long term stats... better to keep shorts on a separate channel to test angles.

You can use Shorts as a funnel. Post a Short, add a link to the long version in the description or comments. Some people click through. But most won't. You can use them but can't rely on them. Also build your long content alongside. that's the real foundation.
Shorts do have their place, for sure, but I believe Shorts true utility lies in the fast iteration of ideas. Shorts that generate high retention give you insights into which topics or formats have potential in being extended into longer form content. The problem lies in equating the Shorts views to your long video loyailists.
