I have a small Instagram page and want to grow it faster. Should I focus mostly on Reels or are carousel posts still getting good engagement? I would appreciate advice from people who tested both.

If your main goal is growing a small page fast, focus more on Reels. The Instagram algorithm actively pushes short videos to strangers, which helps you get discovered quickly.

reels for growth, no contest, theyre the only format ig pushes to strangers right now, carousels barely leave your existing audience. but dont write carousels off, they do a job people skip: the reel gets you SEEN, the follow happens on the profile visit, and a strong carousel (or a pinned one) is what converts that visit because it shows depth + value in 3 seconds of swiping. so its reels to get discovered, a good carousel to close the follow. reels only + a weak profile = lots of views, no follows. is your profile actually set up to convert a reel-viewer who taps through, or is it just a feed of random posts?

Reels are faster to grow your account. Carousels are better if you want to build an engaged audience.

Focus more on Reels. Short-form videos are often prioritized for recommendations, so make sure to develop them.

If you want to grow quickly, short videos are the best choice, but if you want to build a sustainable and stable community, then carousel posts are the optimal option.

Scrolling videos will thrive because they can provide users with good information and require less movement. If they capture the viewer's attention and make an impression in the first 3 seconds, they are likely to remember them for longer.

To grow your small page quickly, prioritize Instagram Reels to reach new users thanks to its distribution algorithm.

Reels gain momentum quicker for reach, but carousels create better engagement over time.

If your goal is growth, I'd prioritize Reels since they usually have the best reach for smaller accounts. Carousels are still great for engagement and keeping followers interested, so using a mix of both tends to work best.

Reels is the best option for fast growth

I'd focus on Reels first. They usually reach more people. Carousels can still do well, especially if people save or share them.

Both are essential, but they serve different goals. Reels are unmatched for reach and discovering new audiences because the algorithm pushes them to non-followers. Carousels, on the other hand, are incredible for engagement and saves because Instagram often shows them twice to followers who scrolled past the first image. For a small account, a 70% Reels and 30% Carousels split is a solid strategy to trigger fast growth."

Reels are better for reach and getting in front of new people, especially on a small page. Carousels can still work well for saves, shares, and deeper engagement if the content teaches something or has a strong opinion.
For growth, I’d post more Reels, then use carousels to build trust with people who already found you.
