For me, the biggest sign is whether a strategy focuses on improving the site for users rather than exploiting a loophole in Google's Algorithm.
If the approach relies on quality content, strong internal linking, and earing relevant backlinks naturally, it's usually safer long term.
On the other hand, if a tactic only works because of a temporary weakness in the algo, i assume it carries more risk and may stop working after update.
 
for me a safe SEO strategy is one that doesn't rely on loopholes or short term tricks if I'd still be comfortable using it after a major google update it's probably a good long term approach
 
honestly the one thing nobody here really touched is traffic concentration. even if your seo is totally clean, if google is 100% of your traffic you're still one update away from a rough month... doesn't mean the strategy is risky, just that leaning on a single channel is. so i kinda fold email and brand/direct search into what i call "safe" now.

also the "survives updates" test everyone keeps repeating is fine but people rush it. surviving one core update means nothing imo, could just be luck or google didn't get to your niche yet. i don't really trust a strategy till its been through 2-3 of them and still holding.

If the answer is no, it's time to rethink it.

It's simple, If you are surviving updates and not doing anything illegal like buying backlinks or producing content without solving user query. then, If it is safe..

If a strategy still makes sense without exploiting a loophole, it's usually build to last. Sustainable rankings come from relevance quality and a natural backlink profile not shortcuts.

One thing that I look for is consistency after updates. Generally if rankings stay the course and do not need to be fixed after every update, it is a gud sign the strategy is built on a gd foundation. Quick wins are great, but a stable 6-12 months are much better than a spike in traffic.
 
a good sign is steady growth instead of sudden ranking spikes if your traffic keeps improving without constantly changing tactics you're probably on the right track
 
The best sign is if your content solves a real problem for the reader. If people stay on your page, read the whole thing, and find what they need, search engines will reward you. Focus on being helpful, not just optimizing.

The simpleest test would be for me to see if the website will still maintain its place or even improve its standing even if I stopped giving it effoert for a whole month time. If the outcome of your search optimizaation strateegy relies on constt manipulation, then it is not very secure at all.
 
I think a good SEO strategy is one that focuses on helping people not just search engines if your content is useful and follows the rules its more likely to work for the long term instead of only giving quick results

Real life and engagement matter more then temporary ranking jumps.
 
I always use the same strategy, i adjust it with the tools that release every year or adjust according to new google trends. The changes are always needed related to content that we provide.So the strategy remains same - high authority links, niche relevant links, forums, q A sites , web 2.0 blogs, website/brand listing sites.
