[Method] How to get your site on Google Discover

there has to be a balance between evergreen and news. also, interlinking is a major win. you have to have good category pages, category descriptions with contextual links, and news that link to evergreen and categories WITHIN the text, not programmatic interlinking blocks. If you do it manually - that's one FTE doing just that. Or... use AI. This is the best s*tty job for this.

News traffic - depends on what you mean here. The news tab is dead meat. nobody's using it. The biggest hit is the top stories snippet, but to get there you have to work your *** off for 2 years at least... Google takes 13 months of historical data, if you've not been publishing news consistently during this time - at least 5 items per day with good behavioral signals and traffic - you're out.
Internal linking why from within the text and not at the end with your EEAT author bio?

What does % of traffic mean? How big is the cake and what does it contain?
I wonder myself too , especial when you need only top tier1 traffic, why top tier1 traffic is not majority in Discover - it makes no sense for me.

Google news - very small share of traffic, very few people click on the News tab. i don't recall stats, but across the GSC of every large news website that I came across during my SEO practice, Google News is like maximum 1-2% of the total pie.
Normal with good new angle of content (perspective) your unique image , with news you should get a good spike of traffic, form Bing too most of Bing's traffic is US.

This makes it a really bad metric to follow because it detaches the volume from the %.

So I'd chase 10% of 2 billion before I'd go to 50% of a 100K. It's like chasing ROI instead of bottom line profit:

1. 150% ROI on 150K ad spend
vs
2. 250% ROI on 1.5K ad spent.

I'm not saying % aren't telling a story, but looking at percentages more often than not only tells half the story.
You will not get a profitable ROI when you spend on most of these Discover traffic countries.

Wasn't my point, I meant that a percentage is not a metric you can follow, like ROI. It's a guide, but it doesn't tell the full story.

Actually, it isn't. Define 'traffic'.
It's all very vague and niche specific. Even if you see search volume, in many types of searches you have multiple visits per session. It's all undocumented.

On a side note, AI can't estimate searches and traffic. I tried this a million times in attempts to speed up keyword researches.
i think you missed my point here. I agree that search volumes and Ahrefs Semrush etc are not always correct, but this is irrelevant to the topic.

The question was about converting Discover traffic from relative to absolute numbers. And you can do it by taking the Google organic traffic share, and calculating the absolute amounts using eg. Semrush or Similarweb or Statista data - they all have this data publicly available, though only partially. You have to have a paid subscription.

Google values contextual links much more than the "link cemetery" at the bottom of each article.

I completely lost you.
No tool can aggregate the search volume for an entire country, so having these percentages is out of context by definition.

You can't compare volumes keyword to keyword, because the Discover feed is not keyword base. Even if you could somehow collect the entire search volume of an entire niche (which you can't) it wouldn't help you because the Discover feed is very similar to YouTube in the way that is personalized for each user based on their interests, meaning, it shows multiple niches and industries.

Also, it doesn't say what 'traffic' is. Is it {search} vs {impression on discover}, is it {click} vs {click}? Search has some CTR benchmarks we can probably assume traffic from, but Discover doesn't, so where is the data coming from?

It's all very weird, as if they just wanted to show a graph but haven't figured out what the graph means.

On a side note I'd say that I have that I have a SEMRush, Keywordtool.io, and Ubersuggest paid accounts so I'm covered.

Or use tag at the end of each pillar when you have a blog category. I will hold my pillar structure little bit flat , it's a mess to write it with ai, ine pillar page 2k words, then 4-6 1200 word spoke articles I can write with batch prompt 2 separate articles at once saves a lot of time., that will be 7k words for 1 hub and I have 4-5 pillar topics.

The first day here in germany beautiful weather but hot after the long winter-
What a shitty slave planet we all live on isn't it ?

Happy Weekend to all here !

I noticed Reddit works best when the post sparks some real chat, not just a link drop, so I usually frame mine like a question or a small rant to get folks talking. Also, swapping out the header image and headline a couple times has helped me hit Discover again after a dry spell. Sometimes one tiny tweak wakes the algo up like a cup of coffee.

This is called; engagement content en=C .....
this is what niche leaders and influencers doing , not longform articles or follow 50 people every day on FB or X.

Happy Weekend

I’ve noticed Google gets picky about image quality, but tweaking how you compress them can make a big difference in clicks. I also started testing different headline angles on social drops to see which ones spark faster traction, and sometimes a tiny wording change pulls way more early engagement. Subreddits can be a gold mine if you match tone with the community so it feels natural instead of forced.

What helped me snag more attention from Discover was checking my post layouts on an actual Android phone before pushing them live - images looked way different than on desktop, so tweaking that bumped up my numbers. I also swapped out generic thumbnails for stuff with bold colors or faces, way more eye-grabbing. Noticed a bump if I avoided clickbait but still kept my headlines punchy.
