Discover prefers a specific article structure not only a 1200px image+ image description. Learn form your competitors content in Discover to see what I mean andhave strong EEAT on your site/ article.

Google Discover is the Google News equivalent for non-news sites. It is a feed of content from around the web. It can potentially bring hundreds of thousands of users to your site, regardless of whether your site ranks well on Google Search.
Most of this type of traffic comes from the US on Android phones, so bear that in mind, too.

There is a bunch of research on this published every year, the top countries are surprizingly Colombia, Poland, Croatia, ... What ? Most of these countries except EU, are not my target audience for my b2b coaching. Thanks for that sharing my friend ! Most of them is not top tier 1 traffic. Soounds not logical for me for what reason google has Discovery?

keep in mind there are a few other tech gimmicks to monitor - the size of HTML does matter. i had a case - advising a news publisher, when after migration to new platform they've lost a s*tload of discover traffic. Appeared to be the HTML size went up from ~100kb to over 1mb....

also you have to adjust og:title and og:description to be more clickbait, different from the TDH.

yeah... that was my reaction as well when I saw this! :LOL:
It is the *SHARE* of traffic, not absolute numbers. Still it's important to keep in mind if you're targeting discover. Spanish segment is killin' it. Discover is waaaay more important if you're deep into Spanish segment.

Then the only way to get fast index and good spikes of google traffic (organic) is news. But news ocntent dies after 48. hours. You can't build topical authority only on writing news, and you need a damn good AI prompt for news articles.

there has to be a balance between evergreen and news. also, interlinking is a major win. you have to have good category pages, category descriptions with contextual links, and news that link to evergreen and categories WITHIN the text, not programmatic interlinking blocks. If you do it manually - that's one FTE doing just that. Or... use AI. This is the best s*tty job for this.

News traffic - depends on what you mean here. The news tab is dead meat. nobody's using it. The biggest hit is the top stories snippet, but to get there you have to work your *** off for 2 years at least... Google takes 13 months of historical data, if you've not been publishing news consistently during this time - at least 5 items per day with good behavioral signals and traffic - you're out.

Yes Reddit is where Google goes to know if it’s really popular state based Reddit are good. Also real industry publications that are not sponsored are key

Google news - very small share of traffic, very few people click on the News tab. i don't recall stats, but across the GSC of every large news website that I came across during my SEO practice, Google News is like maximum 1-2% of the total pie.

This makes it a really bad metric to follow because it detaches the volume from the %.

So I'd chase 10% of 2 billion before I'd go to 50% of a 100K. It's like chasing ROI instead of bottom line profit:

1. 150% ROI on 150K ad spend
vs
2. 250% ROI on 1.5K ad spent.

I'm not saying % aren't telling a story, but looking at percentages more often than not only tells half the story.

totally with you on this. I haven't seen the overall Discover stats, but you can easily propagate these numbers into absolute numbers by mixing it with the overall google traffic stats per country - this data is a single claude or chatgpt prompt away

Actually, it isn't. Define 'traffic'.
It's all very vague and niche specific. Even if you see search volume, in many types of searches you have multiple visits per session. It's all undocumented.

On a side note, AI can't estimate searches and traffic. I tried this a million times in attempts to speed up keyword researches.
