Been running an OFM operation for a while and the internal side is dialed in (chatting, content, partner CPL pipeline). Now I'm at the point where externalizing organic social acquisition makes sense, but I keep hearing horror stories from other owners about traffic teams that overpromise, deliver bot subs, or just ghost after the first invoice.
Before I open up a HAF and start filtering responses, I want to learn from people who've actually hired traffic teams in this niche. Curious about a few things:
What does a legit conversation with a serious team look like in the first DM?
I've heard the good ones ask about your wall, conversion funnel, chatter coverage and ARPU before they even quote. The bad ones quote in line one without asking anything. Is that consistent with what you've seen?
What metrics actually matter and which are fluff?
I plan to track attributable subs, free-to-paid conversion, 30-day ARPU on delivered subs, and effective CPL. Curious if anyone uses different KPIs that proved more useful, or thinks I'm missing something obvious.
Pricing structures that worked vs got you burned
Fee + performance, pure rev share, hybrid... what actually aligned incentives in your experience? I'm leaning toward pure rev share to filter out teams that just want a retainer, but I've also heard rev share gets weird when attribution is murky.
Red flags from past hires
Specifically interested in stuff like:
If you've worked with teams that did right by you, no need to name them publicly here, just curious what made them different operationally. Drop your thoughts, learning before I commit.

Specifically interested in stuff like:
- Teams that resist showing anonymized past results
- Anyone who pushes "guaranteed subs" or volume promises
- Channel "specialists" who turn out to subcontract everything to Fiverr
- Account managers who go quiet after the first month
