A while ago I was searching for information on a topic and eventually found a subreddit that was exactly what I needed.
The funny part is that I would already spent a lot of time posting in other communities that were not the right fit.
I want to know how people discover the best subreddit only after trying several others first ?

I have had the same experience. Sometimes the best subreddit is not the biggest one. Now I spend a little time in reading the subreddit rules and checking the top posts before I join. It saves a lot of time and helps me to find the right community faster.

I've had that happen too, the smaller, topic specific subreddits often end up being the most helpful once you finally find them.

Reddit search is kinda bad for this. Better way is usually Google with site:reddit.com/r/ and a few niche keywords, then open 5-6 subs and check if the recent posts are actually getting replies, not just members count. @Authority Builder also look at what subs people crosspost to, that usually exposes the smaller proper communities faster than browsing Reddit itself.

Yeah, same experience. I’ve wasted time posting in the wrong subs before, then later found a niche one that actually fit way better. It usually takes trial and error to get it right.

yes, i have and as a beginner i think it is a part of the learning process. every new subreddit teaches me something about what works effectively
