A lot of seo advice focuses on publishing more articles but i have noticed that updating existing content can sometimes produce faster results.
For those managing blogs or niche sites then what has given you better ROI like creating new content or improving older pages?
Would love to hear what was working for people right now.

By updating old articles you are kinda creating new content. Google rewards the article that has new information than what's already there in top 10.
So you publish new content or update old content either way your goal should be to beat the ones ranking in the top 10 ideally to beat top 3.

I don't think this can work for all type of niche.
 
Yes, It true, I also try to publish new and attractive content.
 
updating old content wins on roi almost every time, it's already got some trust/links, new posts start from zero
 
Yes I have actually seen better results from updating existing content than constantly publishing new articles especially for pages that are already getting impressions

Yes, updatiing old content with new content is very helpful. I also focus on updating old pages don't work a lot in new pages like i have 150+ pages on my website in a week i update 15-20 pages and add 2-3 new articles.
 
For me updating older content has often been the quicker win. If a page is already getting impressions then improving it can be more effective than starting from scratch. I usually create new content only when i find gaps that the existing pages do not cover.
 
For me updating existing content often gives a better ROI than constantly publishing new articles, refreshing outdated information, improving internal links, adding missing sections and matching search intent can produce results much faster than starting things all over again.


That said I think the best approach in 2026 is a balance of both, keep creating new content to expand topical authority but dont neglect older pages that already have some rankings and authority behind them.
 
Updating existing pages gives a massive, instant ROI advantage because you are injecting fresh search intent and semantic keywords into a URL that already holds established authority and trust with Google, making it way faster than fighting the brutal sandbox period required for brand-new content
 
I had better results by reviewing older pages first. If a page is already indexed and getting some impressions, improving its content, adding missing informations and refreshing outdated sections can often produce quicker gains than publishing a brand new article. I still create new content but only after i have optimized what already exists.
 
It's not always the amount of articles but the quality of the content and the traction it gets.
 
I have seen good results from updating older content, especially pages that were already getting some traffic. small improvements can sometimes make a bigger difference than publishing a new article .i think a mix of both works best.

updating older content usually gives better ROI if a page is already getting some traffic refreshing and improving it often brings faster results than publishing a brand new article
 
I generally update older pages first and create new content only when there is clear gap or a new topic worth covering for my website.
 
I completely agree. Quality always beats quantity. A few well-optimized articles can outperform hundreds of low-value posts.

Updating and improving existing content often delivers better result. i think many people do this.
 
It depends on the stage of the site. If the site already has a good amount of content, updating older pages usually gives a quicker return. On newer sites though adding enough quality content to build topical coverage has made a bigger difference than spending too much time refining a handful of clicks.
