Has Instagram become harder for small creators to grow?

I see a lot of people saying Instagram now favors established creators more than newer accounts. If you have started a fresh account recently, what has your experience been? Is consistent growth still possible without paid promotion?

insta prioritizes content, especially video content, there a tons of new accounts which gets fast reach, buuut it depends on the quality of content and in 90% cases insta needs few weeks or months to establish the niche of your account to know exactly to whom to show your video

Are there any tools that can integrate with Insta to determine the specific types of posts that are likely to do well?

It feels harder than it used to, but new accounts can still grow. I've seen my new accounts get good reach without spending money.

Organic growth on Instagram without advertising is entirely possible. Experience shows that new accounts are often given a certain amount of exposure by the platform for behavioral analysis. However, to maintain stable growth, strategic content creation is a prerequisite.

Certainly there is growth potential in new accounts, however, IG will be more riorous in its evaluation of newly created pages in 2026. Consistency in Reels and strong hooks will get you organic growth even without ads but a much slower one compared to old accounts. Retention signals matter more now rather than follower age

New accounts can still grow organically, but the margin for error is smaller.

Strong hooks, consistent posting, and understanding what your audience wants to see have made the biggest difference in my experience.

You can still grow accounts; however it might be better to first start off with growing one account first, before you go ahead and start managing 5+ accounts on the same device. At that point, the tracking of the accounts and linking of the device becomes a factor and you haver to be very careful. Start with 1 account first.

instagram growth is getting more competitive for small creators but consistency and strong content still work new accounts can grow if they focus on retention hooks and regular posting without relying on paid promotion

Yes growth is still possible organically, but it takes more consistency and patience now. Good content, engagement and understanding your audience matter more than just having an old account or paid promotion.

Growth on Instagram is definitely more challenging now, especially for new accounts, but it's not impossible. What I've seen is that accounts that focus on creating content that resonates with their audience and posting consistently tend to do better in the long run. It's also important to pay attention to retention signals, as this is what sets apart accounts that are just growing for the sake of numbers from those that are actually building a loyal following. Starting with one account and getting a feel for what works and what doesn't is a good strategy, rather than trying to manage multiple accounts at once. Consistency and strong content are key, and it's better to take the time to build a solid foundation rather than trying to rush growth with paid promotion. This approach may take longer, but it helps to build a more sustainable presence on the platform.

Don’t think so, if anything it’s getting more traffic than ever so there’s more to go around. Just don’t pick a convoluted niche.

I think it has become more competitive over the years There are far more creators now so standing out takes more effort Consistency and content quality still matter but growth often seems slower than it was a few years ago

Especially with how they ban everyone who even makes a little bit of motion crazy.

Yes, organic growth is tougher using old methods, but today's algorithm judges content post-by-post rather than by follower count. A fresh account can still go viral instantly without paid ads if its content passes initial viewer tests for watch time and DM shares.

It's much more difficult than it used to be, but there are plenty of new accounts that are reaching significant heights in a short period of time

Consistent growth is still possible without paid promotion, but Instagram now rewards strong engagement, content quality, and consistency more than simply being a new account.

started a fresh travel account back in feb and the first like 2 weeks were dead quiet, then suddenly one reel did 40k out of nowhere. so the early exposure thing people mention is real, insta does seem to test you before it figures out where to slot your content.

what helped me most wasnt posting more, it was watching which posts held people past the 3 second mark. anything with a weak first frame just died no matter how good the rest was. saves and shares moved the needle way harder than likes too.

paid promo never did much for me on new accounts honestly, you just buy reach that doesnt stick. growth is slower than a few years ago for sure but its not closed off, you just cant be lazy with the hook anymore.
